Application process
  • How does the application process work?
    • Submit Application:
      • Once you've found a role you want to apply for on our Career Site or external job boards, just click on 'Apply' at the top or bottom of the job posting. You’ll then be asked to create a candidate profile, upload your curriculum vitae and complete an application form with additional mandatory questions.
      • Shortly after you have submitted your application you will see the application listed in your candidate profile.
    • Application Review:
      • After we've received your application, we will review it. You will receive an update on your application status via your registered email address.
      • In some cases, in addition to the resume review, the hiring manager may incorporate an additional step of conducting a brief screening phone call with you, as part of the shortlisting of candidates to bring forward to interview.
      • Please note: due to the volume of applications received, we are typically unable to provide individualised feedback to candidates that have applied for a role and are not selected for a screen or interview.
    • Interview:
      • If advancing in the process, the next interview steps vary based on the role you're applying for. Be prepared to demonstrate how you meet the qualifications of the job by sharing specific examples from your past or ideas about how you would accomplish a specific task. Be sure to share how skills you have gained throughout your career will translate to the role for which you are interviewing.
      • Most commonly you'll meet with 2 to 3 people—some potential teammates and some cross-functional colleagues—for up to an hour. The hiring team gets a chance to get to know you—and equally you get a chance to get to know the team.  The interview can take place over Teams or on-site in-person.
      • Post-interview, the member of the HR team can help you understand the specific timeline of when you can expect to hear back regarding the hiring decision. Find insights to help you prepare on the Recruitment brochure.
      • If not selected for the role you’ve interviewed for, we encourage you to continue to explore job openings on the Gheel Careers Site. While you were not selected for this role, there may be other positions that are of interest to you that more closely match your skill set.
    • Offer:
      • If you are extended an offer, the HR team will reach out to you via email to share the next steps regarding details of the offer and relevant HR induction documents (i.e., Garda Vetting/police clearance, Pre-Employment Medical, Reference checks, qualifications).
    • How long does the recruitment process take?
      • This depends on the role you’re applying for. As a general rule, the entire recruitment process can take between four and eight weeks.
    • Is your online application process secure?
      • Yes, we ensure all personal information you provide is protected from unauthorised use.
      • We will also use your unique email address to contact you regarding your application. Please ensure your email address is accurate before submitting your application.
    • Can I apply for more than one vacancy?
      • Yes, you can apply for as many vacancies as you wish. However, we will only consider one of your applications at a time, so think carefully about which role you apply for and where you wish to work.

  • How can I show proof of eligibility to work in Ireland?
    • We are required to check your eligibility to work in the Republic of Ireland before we employ you. You must be able to provide a valid passport or Visa permit status.
How do panels work?
  • What is a panel?
    • A panel is made up of groups of candidates who have been deemed suitably appointable following successful completion of the recruitment stages of a competition, e.g. interview, scenarios, presentation etc. Gheel panels are not ranked. As vacancies arise, they will be filled from the panel of suitably appointable candidates.
    • Placement on a panel is not a guarantee of appointment to a position.
  • What does this mean for me?
    • Gheel recruits via competency-based interviews. If you reach the appointable score, candidates may be placed on a panel. The formation of a panel is dependent on the location availability and in particular the needs of the team of services.
    • Where you are on a panel and offered a role within Gheel, several pre-employment checks must be completed prior to appointing you to a position.
  • When does the panel expire?
    • Gheel panels normally have a lifetime of 6 months. For certain competitions, the lifetime of a panel may be longer or shorter, and in certain cases may be further extended.
  • What happens if I decline or refuse an offer of employment?
    • If you decline an offer of employment, you will remain on the panel if you choose to do so.
  • If I’m not successful, can I apply again?
    • Yes, you can apply for as many vacancies as you wish. However, we will only consider one of your applications at a time. Please ensure you make a new application for every position you apply for.
